C&O Historical Society Staff Shares "A Little Bit of Railroad" With Local Children

On Tuesday, May 4, 2004, the C&OHS staff hosted “Story Hour” at the Clifton Forge Public Library. This group of preschool age children meet each week for guest readers and special activities such as music and crafts.
The C&OHS joined the children on Tuesday to read The Caboose Who Got Loose and John Henry and His Mighty Hammer. The children were given a wooden train whistle and a Chessie® temporary tattoo. As part of the hour, the children were told to blow their whistles during the story at anytime the words 'train' or 'caboose' were read. They seemed to enjoy both the stories and the whistles.
The group was also given the “Operation Lifesaver” coloring book. We saw some very interesting color schemes on some of these trains!
The staff had a great time and there is always that hope that there was some interest sparked in atleast one of those little minds.
